  Operation Delta Force II: Mayday

A ship captained by the father (Dale Dye) of the leader (Michael McGrady) of Delta Force is taken hostage by terrorists. As might be expected the force is sent in to stop them.

Frankly, I accepted a co-starring role in this low-budget pot-boiler for two reasons: It was a co-starring role and the Producers were willing to give me a safari vacation in South Africa’s Zulu Land as an added bonus if I signed. The Producers were a pair of Israeli filmmakers who had purchased and set up a studio outside Johannesburg where they cranked out films heavy on action and light on plot and performances. I play a retired U.S. Navy submariner who is in command of a luxury cruise liner when his ship is boarded and captured by a gang of terrorists who have ripped off a Soviet sub armed with nuclear missiles.

Oh, yeah…and if that’s not enough, my estranged son – a U.S. Navy SEAL is sent to the rescue. I’m told that I will command the stolen sub using all my experience and expertise or the terrorists will torpedo my ship…which just happens to have my wife and daughter aboard. Naturally, I reluctantly cooperate until the moment when I can turn the tables and cooperate in re-taking the sub alongside my son…with whom I have now re-established a loving relationship. Anyway, the safari was fun.

They promised this film would not be released in the U.S. Naturally, in a month or two after it was completed, I started getting phone calls from friends who had seen it on cable.
