Vietnam War Story--Thoughts on the Production

This series was a good effort that eventually failed for lack of support. As usual, money was the object. Everything was done on the cheap. The Vasquez Rocks area simply did not look like Vietnam and the producers were unwilling to shoot anywhere else due to the expense of travel and support of crews on location. We did what we could on this one and some of the stories were genuinely touching, especially the non-combat stuff which could be shot anywhere without ill effect. When we suffered, it was in the combat stories. Even the amount of ammo we could fire was strictly rationed. There was never enough time, money or interest in pushing the envelope. It's the curse of TV production mentality and on Vietnam War Stories we learned all about that.
